Sentosa Getaway

Sentosa's Palawan Beach

It's been more than 10 years since I came back to Sentosa and amazing a lot has changed. The beaches are much cleaner and more fun these days. I've also captured some riders trying out the Segway PT in the photos below. Who say you can only operate these electric vehicles when standing. They are great for resting too! Opps! Smiley

Night Shot Tested

Canon PowerShot SX20 IS night shot test

Mentioned in my previous post, I've bought my camera finally. It is the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, and I would like to thank those of you who had gave me your valuable suggestions and recommendations. They had been very helpful when selecting my new camera. I've read a few reviews highlighting that this model produces noisy photos under low light conditions. So I thought may be I should test it.

The photo above was taken today at about 8pm. The settings on my camera were, shutter speed 5sec in AV mode (aperture mode) TV mode (Shutter Priority), with exposure +1 2/3 and ISO 200. Unfortunately it was raining and a few drops of rain settled on my lens when taking this shot. In the photo, this is Manchester Piccadilly road. I'm actually quite pleased with the quality, although may be reducing the exposure slightly, and having a longer shutter speed will achieve better effects.

Is it time to move on and up?

Image of my old camera

The camera that I'm using to shoot most of my photos is the Canon PowerShot A640. I've bought this piece towards the end of 2007, and it was value for money. However, a few flaws was noticed when using it.

Firstly, because it does not have image stabiliser, thus photos always turned out blurrish in low light, indoors, and when I'm trying to capture moving images. I've tried selecting the night scene, indoors, and kids mode respectively, however, that improves the quality of the photo slightly. Secondly, it takes an awful long time to take a photo with the flash on. A lot of time I just gave up. The longest time I've ever waited was 30 seconds and nothing happened. Overall, this camera has served me well, but looking around things has moved on a lot and may be my expectation just became more demanding now. Happy Smiley

I am seeking advice how to improve my shooting skills so that I can overcome the above problems. If I want to get myself a good camera with good video capabilities, which brand and model will you recommend and why? To furnish more about the camera I am looking for, I want something compact and light (<600g), but with much better capabilities than my A640.

Wired Or Wireless?

Image of WiFi logo and RJ45 cables

The Web has become an essential to our daily life in today's world. More and more are connecting to the Internet either wireless or through a cable from a computer. So what type of Internet users are you? Do you prefer to connect to the Internet via a cable or wireless?

Recent years saw an outburst of WiFi zones/spots all over the world, making Internet ready available for all. A town in Britain has also began a free wireless scheme to its entire population. In Singapore, the government provides free WiFi in most public places. So how has WiFi caught up with your method of connecting to the Internet? I must confess, I still prefer connecting to the Internet via a cable. That's because it is more stable and faster, though you have more freedom with wireless.

Rich 3D Graphics In Web pages

Ever wonder what will the Web be like with richer 3D graphics like the demo presented in the video clip below? This may be a reality soon. Mozilla started a few years ago experimenting on possibilities to deliver these features to its users without requiring additional Web browser plug-ins. A cool concept, however, the bottleneck to all these advancements relate to the capability of disturbing rich 3D content. This type of content will require the Internet to be transferring at a quick and reliable rate. At this moment, are you satisfied with your Internet connection speed? Are the content delivered at an acceptable rate? Do you think your computer can handle the much more data that is going to be delivered to your computer?
